Mike Lucian spent the first part of his career on the defensive line, Lucian was shifted to the offensive line during the 2006 season. The talented, strong and physical Lucian worked hard to learn about the opposite side of the ball and was ready when called upon in 2007 starting eight of the final 11 games at guard. When the need arose, Lucian shifted to center, and battled returning starter A.Q. Shipley .

2007 Senior Season Playing in 11 games with eight starts, Lucian played a big role in helping the offensive line emerge as one of the squad's most consistently productive units. When senior John Shaw was slowed by an injury, Lucian earned his first career start, against Buffalo. He started seven games at right guard and one contest on the left side. Lucian helped Penn State average 400.1 yards per game -- 193.8 rushing and 206.3 passing -- and 5.5 yards per play. The Nittany Lions ran for 200 yards or more six times, with 270 yards against Texas A&M in the Valero Alamo Bowl, 256 yards against Iowa and 251 yards against Purdue. The line opened lanes for Rodney Kinlaw to become the 11th running back in Penn State history to surpass the 1,000-yard mark in a season, gaining 1,326 yards, the ninth-highest total in school season history. Lucian and the offensive line steered a Penn State rushing attack in the Valero Alamo Bowl win over Texas A&M to a season-high 270 yards on the ground and 6.6 yards per carry. The O-Line paved the way for Penn State to gain 2,519 rushing yards, with 27 touchdowns, averaging 4.8 yards per attempt in 2007, up 0.6 from 2006. Lucian saw action on 552 snaps, led by 86 against Iowa and 80 at Illinois. He missed the Indiana and Ohio State games after suffering a mild concussion in the win over No. 19 Wisconsin.
2006 Junior Season Lucian began the season at defensive end, but some injuries on the offensive line brought a change to guard during the campaign. He played in the victories over Illinois and Temple.
2005 Sophomore Season In his first season on the field, Lucian had the opportunity to play in six games for a veteran defensive line. He made five tackles, including 0.5 tackles for loss. Lucian made two solo stops against Central Michigan in his Penn State debut. He added single hits each against Cincinnati, Minnesota and Illinois, including a minus-yardage stop in the victory over the Bearcats. He was on the field for 48 snaps, led by a season-high 17 against Illinois.
2004 Freshman Season Redshirt season. Played in the 2005 Blue-White game, notching one solo tackle.
High School Lucian was instrumental in helping Linganore HS to the Maryland Class AAA state championship as a senior. Playing for Coach Rick Conner, he earned Associated Press all-state laurels twice and was a member of the Washington Post All-Met team. Lucian recorded eight sacks as a senior. During his junior season, he made 80 tackles, with four sacks and an interception and made 12 receptions for 180 yards as a tight end.
